NCP Faults Judgment On Al-Mustapha,Shofolahan

Dr Yunusa Tanko, the National Secretary of National Conscience Party (NCP), has faulted the judgment of a Lagos High Court, which sentenced Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha and Lateef Shofolahan to death by hanging over the murder of Kudirat Abiola.

Tanko condemned the judgement in Abuja on Thursday.??

He said the death sentence by hanging was too severe and advised that the duo be made to serve a lesser punishment.

“We believe that the judgment should be compassionate in a way and sentence should be made rather than giving him a capital punishment.

‘’Because people like Boko Haram who have killed and confirmed killing individuals have not been sentenced to death; and people who have taken arms against the state have not been sentenced to death.’’

According to Tanko, though the party believes in human rights and had sought justice for Kudirat Abiola, justice has not been served the former chief security officer and his counterpart.

The party chieftain maintained that the death of Al-Mustapha would result in the killing of evidence that may help in tackling some challenges that originated during the Sani Abacha regime.

‘’If Mustapha is just being killed we feel that they are burying a lot of evidence that would have been used against people who have put this country into total anarchy.

‘’We believe Mustapha should have been in prison so that he can be asked questions that could be useful to the country.’’
