15,OOO Security Personnel Deployed For Bayelsa Guber Poll

A total number of 10,000 Police personnel and over 5,000 other security agents will be deployed to the existing eight local government councils in Bayelsa State for the conduct of Saturday’s Governorship poll.

The Bayelsa State Police Command announced that the deployed security agents will be made up of a team of anti bomb squad from Edo, Delta and Rivers States and are expected to arrive Yenagoa city tomorrow for the elections.

Speaking on Thursday, the new State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Olakpe, said the force was adequately prepared for the Saturday poll and assured Bayelsans that entire state would be effectively policed to ensure a hitch free election.

Olakpe said for the purpose of the election and the peculiarity of the terrain, boats have been provided to ensure that the men deployed to the hinterland get to their duty post on time and ensure that the pooling booths are properly secured.

Olakpe who assumed duties Wednesday as the state police commissioner said, “I want to assure Bayelsans that we have the manpower to ensure a hitch free election. We have deployed 10,000 men for the exercise and our sister agencies are also bringing five thousand men so we are expecting 15,000 men to provide security and ensure a peaceful poll.”
