Okada Ban: FCT Police Command Commence Enforcement

The Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) alongside other security and safety agencies in the territory have commenced full enforcement of the existing ministerial ban on the use of commercial motorcycles popularly called ‘okada’.

A press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Jimoh Moshood, said the enforcement would be on all the highways, major roads, and ring roads in the metropolis and other areas specified in the ban.

According to him, “For the avoidance of doubt, okada operations on the full stretch of the Umar Musa Yar’Adua Way also known as the Airport Road, from the metro throughout to the Airport is prohibited and is a violation of this ban.

“Henceforth, anybody arrested on the Airport Road or other restricted areas by the joint enforcement team will be prosecuted and such motorcycles impounded. However, uniform personnel of various security and safety agencies in the territory who were exempted from the ban while on duty must use crash helmets.”

He warned FCT residents to avoid any brush with the law as the enforcement will be total and continuous.
