TUC Decries Anti-Labour Practices At Onne

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has decried the anti-labour practices adopted by multi-national companies operating at the Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT) and the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) in Onne, Rivers State.

TUC President, Comrade Peter Esele, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that most multi-national firms that were operating in Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt have all relocated to Onne in order to benefit from the anti-labour practices.

Esele, who was reacting to a recent face-off between the oil workers’ union and an oil servicing firm, Vam Services, said; “The reason why you have a lot of people moving out of Trans-Amadi and moving to Onne is because they have a wall around themselves and the anti-labour practices that go on within that wall in Onne cannot happen in any part of the world.

“There are no collective bargaining agreements among Nigerians who are working in most multi-national companies operating in Onne. Why are they afraid of the Union if they meant well for their workers.”

The TUC boss regretted that Nigerian elected leaders often forgot their people once elected into public office.
