Army Re-Affirms Commitment To Democracy

Maj-Gen. Sylvester Audu, Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia, has re-affirmed the commitment of the army in protecting the nation’s democracy.

Audu said this in Aba, Abia, on Wednesday while hosting members of the Aba Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA).

The Commander said this when ACCIMA members paid him a courtesy call at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, Ohafia.

He said one of the ways to jealously guard the nation’s democracy was to expose anti-democratic elements within the system.

The Commander said the army would continue to secure lives and property of the citizenry in fulfilment of the mandates of the brigade in creating a conducive environment for democracy.

Audu commended the chamber for its support and patience during the traumatic period of kidnapping and robbery in Abia, stressing that the Aba business community suffered most during the period.

?“Your businesses collapsed and there was fear everywhere, we thank you for your patience and support; we succeeded because God, your chamber and Abia people were on our side.”

Mr Eva Onmizigha, the team leader, who also represented chamber’s President, Chief Eleanya Okoroji, commended the Nigerian Army for sanitising Aba.

“If not for you, we don’t know what would have become of Aba and Abia state at large.

“We fill it is very important to come and say thank you, you have done wonderfully well, people are back to Aba due to your achievements.

“We also appreciated an officer of your rank, who decided to conduct the operation physically with the troops as others would do in the luxury of hotel rooms.

“This sort of commitment and dedication is wonderful of an officer of your rank, you are indeed a soldier with a difference.” (NAN)
