Jonathan Seeks Elections Without Security Personnel Carrying Guns

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has said that after the success of one-man-one vote policy advocated by his administration, the next phase is to conduct election without gun wielding security personnel.

The President who was speaking at the grand finale of Senator Liyel Imoke’s governorship campaign in Calabar yesterday said one-man-one vote having been accepted by Nigerians, his next task was to conduct elections without security men carrying guns.

“We wanted a situation in Nigeria where we will vote, and our votes are counted and nobody is cheated so that at the end of the day, nobody will go to tribunal or court and God willing we have succeeded and today we have one-man-one vote and one-woman-one vote,” he stated.

He said his government was advocating another policy where security men would not be carrying arms during elections, “We also want to conduct election in Nigeria without Police carrying gun, we want a situation where Nigerians will go and vote and their votes are counted”.

The President further said, “Nobody will be cheated in elections in Nigeria so that at the end of the day, there will be no court, God willing we will conduct election where peace will reign” and commended Senator Liyel Imoke for sustaining what his predecessor did while in office.

The President regretted that some of the elected office holders do not continue from where their predecessor end hence embarking on new projects which created room for abandoned projects.
