Police Chief Bemoans High Rate Of Cultism In Benue

Mr John Haruna, the Commissioner of Police in Benue, has decried the high rate of cultism in the state.?

Haruna made the observation on Wednesday in Gboko, Benue, when he met with? His Royal Highness,? the Tor Tiv, Mr Alfred Torkula.??

He noted that if the spread of cultism was not checked, it would undermine the security of the state.?

The police chief noted regrettably that from December 2011 to date, four deaths in the state had been linked to cult groups and called for concerted efforts in tackling the menace.

?Haruna also warned the public against accomodating members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, saying that the extremists had noved to? most neighbouring states in search of refuge.?

According to him, immigration officers had so far arrested about 70 illegal immigrants from Niger, adding that they would soon be deported.?

The police commissioner appealed to traditional rulers to sensitise their subjects on security matters.?

He also appealed to the traditioner ruler to promote peace between Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen.?

Responding, the Tor Tiv called on the people to report suspicious characters to security men.?

The paramount ruler described cultism as evil and had nothing good for the youth.

He therefore urged youths to refrain from acts capable of ruining them.?

He advised parents to watch over the behaviour of their children.?

The Tor Tiv also commended the police for the relative peace in his domain.
