Lagos Evicts 120 Petroleum Tankers From Oshodi- Apapa Expressway

As the 72-hour ultimatum given to tanker drivers to vacate the ever busy Oshodi –Apapa expressway expired yesterday , the Lagos State Government made good its threat to clear the expressway by ejecting the illegally parked tankers from the highway.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, who led the team which comprised of top Government officials in the Ministries of Transportation and The Environment, the Lagos State Task Force, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) Park Monitoring Committee, Abandoned and Disused Committee said the clearing of the vehicles became necessary in order to checkmate the excesses of tanker drivers on that axis.

Opeifa said that the State Government being a responsive one would ensure that every citizen has a right of way on the axis, rather leaving it for tankers and trucks carrying containers.

He added that the enlightenment and enforcement exercise is continuous and that the State Government would not relent until tanker drivers only park on one lane of the service lane.
