Barely forty eight hours after? Major General Charles Aiahiavbere (rtd) emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), in Edo State to contest the July 14th governorship election against Governor? Adams Oshiomhole of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), has expressed disappointment?? over the choice of the? former Army Officer.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP? in Benin City yesterday and signed by the state chairman of CRPP, Samson Isibor and Felix Imade (Secretary), the group described the primary as a ‘sham’? and added that the PDP was bound to fail in the election.
The statement reads in part: “The election of Saturday is a sham; they have created an opportunity for the incumbent governor Oshiomhole to have a landslide victory over the PDP candidate. No thanks to Orbih led PDP leadership.
“In the first place General Airhaivbere record cannot march that of Oshiomhole, either as a democrat or on achievement in office . Going by his military background?? it will be very difficult for him to fit into democratic experiment we are practicing; the people of Edo State will not condone any military autocracy”.
