NYSC Begins New Posting Of Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the commencement of a new posting policy that will ensure that serving corps members are posted to identified key sectors of the economy in order to make the scheme more responsive to current realities and challenges of national development.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Nnamdi Okore-Affia disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos, at beginning of a three-day pre-orientation workshop for 2012 Batch ‘A’ corps members tagged “Re-strategising the NYSC Orientation Course Towards Enhancing Corps Members Potentials” held at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja.

“Following observations of large scale distortion in the distribution of corps members occasioned by lobbying for preferential posting, a request was put up on the need for a change of direction in the deployment policy. I am happy to announce that Mr. President has approved the new posting policy for corps members who will be deployed to four key sectors: health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure”, he said.

He added that the new posting policy will take effect with the 2012 Batch ‘A’ service year, noting that letters had been deployed to state governors through state coordinators to ensure strict compliance with the new policy.

The DG who was visiting Lagos for an NYSC function for the first time since assumption of office explained that “The pre-orientation workshop served an important forum that creates an enabling environment for both management and stakeholders to draw from the wealth of past experiences and exchange of ideas as impetus to work assiduously at improving the prospects of the scheme in the face of challenges”.
