EFCC Arraign 2 Former Vanguard Employees To Court Over Alleged Theft

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday arraigned two former employees of the Vanguard Media Ltd. at an Ikeja High Court, for allegedly stealing N7.9 million belonging to the company.

The accused persons are James Unoka, Sales Representatives and Badmus Abiodun, an accountant.

Justice Lateefat Okunnu ordered that the accused be remanded in Kirikiri prisons, pending the determination of their bail application.

The EFCC prosecutor, Mr Abba Mohammed, said that the two accused persons are facing a 16-count charge bothering on conspiracy, stealing and forgery.

Mohammed alleged that they had between Jan. 2006 and June 2008 in Lagos, conspired to steal by fraudulently converting a total sum of N7.9 million belonging to the company, to their personal use.

He also accused them of forging two United Bank of Africa (UBA) deposit slips No. 3812385 and 6633835, purporting to be in the sums of N42, 915 and N254, 200 respectively.

According to him, their alleged offences contravened Sections 390 (7), 467 (2) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State 2003.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Okunnu adjourned further hearing till March 13. (NAN)
