Police Arrest 6 Suspected Kidnappers In Imo

The Police in Imo say they have arrested six suspected kidnappers, including a native doctor, who allegedly prepares charms for the suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo, Mr Samuel Oddee, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri Wednesday that the suspects were members of two different gangs operating in the state.

Oddee said that three of them were among the six-member gang that allegedly kidnapped one Mrs Chioma Duru at Akwa Akuma, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo on Feb. 29.

He explained that Duru and her children were riding in a Toyota Highlander jeep on their way back home after a church service, when the gang swooped on them, dropping the children and zooming off with her.

The PPRO said that, the three suspects were arrested at Amakaohia Ubi in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo following a tip-off, while others escaped with the vehicle.

Oddee said that, the same gang had earlier kidnapped one Uche Alaribe, a businessman from Ngor Okpalla Local Government Area, who they allegedly killed after collecting ransom.

The PPRO said that two other suspects were arrested along with the native doctor in his residence.

Oddee added that the suspects would be charged to court after police investigations.

He commended Imo residents for cooperating with the police in the fight against kidnapping and armed robbery in the state.

He implored the people to continue to volunteer information to the law enforcement agents, and promised that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality. (NAN)
