Edo: Why Oshiomhole Remains Only ACN Candidate

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole may contest the gubernatorial primary of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) against self since checks reveal he remains the only gubernatorial aspirant that shows interest in the coming governorship poll, LEADERSHIP can now report.

Former labour leader on Tuesday picked the governorship nomination form from the National Secretariat of the party, Abuja, for the 14 July, 2012 governorship poll. A top secretariat officer who does not want his name in print said the party a sole candidate.

“There are many instances where parties are being saved from conducting primaries once there is a consensus candidate as we are going to have in Edo state. It is only the comrade governor that has indicated interest in the forthcoming election,” the party official told LEADERSHIP.

According to him, the governor enjoys the support of “every all stakeholders of the party and if you look at those who came with the comrade governor to pick the nomination form it was a delegation of who is who in Edo state chapter of our party.

He further disclosed that other aspirants might have seen futility of contesting against “an action governor as you could hear from the National Vice Chairman, Boss Mustapha, Oshiomole is a riddle that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) cannot solve” adding “nobody changes a winning team, Oshiomole is the only one that could humble the PDP rigging machine.”

“When you contested in 2007, you went to the people with a contract seeking for their support on the basis of bringing change to Edo state and that document was an article of promises as you prepare to go back for the election of 14 July, 2012, you are not going back with an article of promises.
