Nasarawa: Traditional Ruler Tasks Parents On High Bride Price

The traditional ruler of Doma in Nasarawa, Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu-Ogah, has urged the people of the area to cut down on the amount of bride price on their daughters to encourage young suitors.?

He gave the advice on Thursday while addressing Imams in Doma and its environs? “The minimum amount payable as bride price is N7,660, which is most blessed in the sight of Allah,”? he declared?? he?? he declared.

Aliyu-Ogah, who is the Andoma of Doma, said most young men of marriageable age were scared of approaching ladies for marriage because of the high price being demanded by their prospective in-laws.?

He stated that “most young men indulged in immoral sexual behaviours often resulting in unwanted pregnancies and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), including HIV and AIDS.

He advised parents to show affection to their children, especially the female, in order to groom them properly for matrimony.

The monarch also urged parents to pay attention to good parental upbringing as he complained of increased cases of juvenile delinquency in the area.

He, however, identified bad governance and influence of peer groups as some of the factors responsible for bad behaviours among some children and advised parents to, at all times, continue to monitor their wards.
