5 Killed As Robbers Invade Dankama Market

Four persons were feared dead when persons suspected to be armed robbers, Wednesday, raided Dankama market, a local border market in Kaita local government of Katsina State, and allegedly carted away undisclosed sums of money.

The Dankama market, which is in the Nigeria-Niger border town of Dankama village, is one of the most popular markets in Katsina State.

The robbers sporadically shot into the air before beginning their operation, leading to several people getting injured in the panic. Five unlucky persons were killed in the shooting.

An eyewitness, Yunusa Galadima, said the armed men, numbering 15, arrived at the market around 5pm on five motorcycles “and shot sporadically on the air, obviously to disperse people before raiding the local bureau de change.”

No fewer than eleven people sustained bullet wounds and varied degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatments at the Katsina general hospital and the Federal Medical Centre.
