Late DIG Haruna’s Mother Dies Of Heart Attack

The mother of late deputy inspector-general of police Haruna John, Madam Silani John, was yesterday confirmed dead after suffering a heart attack following the sudden death of her son in a helicopter crash.

Madam Haruna was confirmed dead at a Jalingo hospital where she was admitted last week.

The late Haruna John died penultimate Tuesday after a police helicopter he was flying while on surveillance patrol around the restive Jos, Plateau State, crashed, killing all the passengers.

The killed police officer had only a few days to his death received a double promotion from the rank of commissioner of police to deputy inspector-general of police, in-charge of operations, and had earlier also attended a stakeholders' meeting of top security chiefs and government officials in Jos, to find ways of checkmating the recurrent violence in Plateau State.

LEADERSHIP learnt that after Madam Silani John received the news of her son’s death she suddenly took ill with series of heart pains and was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

One of the wives of her sons who would not want her name in print said Madam Silani did not have a history of High Blood Pressure HBP.? “Mama Silani during her life time never for once complained of heart problem or diabetes, not to mention high blood pressure.

?“It is all about her son’s death. It’s nothing more because since the day she heard the news of her son’s death, she developed this sudden shock and her health was not stable till her last hours yesterday,” the wife said in Hausa language.?

Confirming the death of the late DIG Haruna’s mother, Mr. Yususf John who spoke to our correspondent said Mama Silani died in a hospital here in Jalingo in the early hours of Saturday. He however refused to disclose the name of the hospital and when she would be buried.

?“Please let me be sincere to you, I am confused on how we are going to go about the burial. I can’t tell you any other thing more than this. I can’t tell you anything more for now. It will take us time to know about other things”, he said.

Although, the family has announced March 31, as the date for fallen officer’s funeral, but when LEADERSHIP visited the family house, the late Haruna’s father, Mr. John, was not on seat to receive condolence messages from sympathisers. A close relation however informed that, “he had been taken away so that he does not get to hear of the death of his wife, at least for now.”
