The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Kaduna State Chapter, has described as courageous the statement credited to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Andrew Owoeye Azazi, who fingered the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as generating the security challenges facing the country.
?ACN, in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Barrister Muhammed Musa Soba, and issued to newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, urged the government to look beyond the narrow, tribal, sectional and religious definitions of the Boko Haram and to address the glaring imbalance between the citizens and those operating the levers of government.
According to Soba, “the dirty revelations from the probes of the capital market, police pension scheme and the fuel subsidy alone are enough to destroy the Nigerian economy and cripple the operations of the government, thereby worsening the security situation.
?“The PDP should learn from and admit the truthful statement of General Andrew Azazi instead of engaging him in a fruitless political debate that has already tilted the public in his favour,” Soba noted.
ACN has also condemned the wave of violence across the country and the incessant bombings that are more pronounced in the northern part of the country.
On the recent bomb attacks on media houses, particularly those of ThisDay, The Sun and The Moment, ACN described the attack as unwarranted and ill-conceived considering the role of the media as a watch-dog of the society and a mirror through which the society evaluates itself vis-à-vis the relationship between the government and the citizenry.
Soba therefore urged the members of the media profession to remain resolute in their constitutional and professional duties and refuse to be intimidated by the spate of attacks, saying that was the only way to ensure collective victory against the divisive forces that hide under different identities to unleash violence against the innocent, oppressed and defenceless citizens of Nigeria.
He further described the attack as the handiwork of “desperate people who are determined to silence the Nigerian people and confine them to unacceptable fate of misery, squalor illiteracy and poverty occasioned by bad governance, nepotism and corruption”.
