Catholic Bishops Call For Prayer Over Insecurity In Nigeria

The administrative board of Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has called for a special prayer pilgrimage (meeting) for Nigeria to overcome its insecurity challenges.

The statement, issued by the President of CBCN, Most Rev Ignatius Kaigama in Abuja on Tuesday, said the prayers would be observed at both national and diocesan levels of the church.

The call is the board’s reaction to the persistent killing of Nigerians and other forms of violence in parts of the country, according to the statement.

“In the light of the recent killing of worshippers in Kano and other previous killings, it was decided that there should be practical demonstration of our condemnation of these evil acts.''

It said that all catholic faithful and clergy were expected to attend the event to be held between June 1 and June 2 in Abuja.

“The national prayer pilgrimage will take place in Abuja from June 1 to June 2.

“It is going to be an all night intense prayer with candlelight and rosary procession and? testimonies, starting with ?vigil mass at 9 p.m.''

It recommended that dioceses organise similar prayer pilgrimages in various dioceses before the national event in Abuja. (NAN)
