FRSC Joins UN Body On Road Safety

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has admitted the FRSC into the UN Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC).

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Jonas Agwu, the new Public Education Officer of the FRSC in Abuja on Tuesday.

The statement said that the admission of the commission into the UN body was in recognition of its leading role in road safety management in the country and in the West African sub-region.

It noted that the letter admitting it into the body was signed by the Director of the UNRSC’s Chair, Dr Etienne Krug.

It will be recalled that the UN Road Safety Collaboration was set up by WHO in May 2004 at the instance of the World Health Assembly.

Members are drawn from international agencies, UN regional commissions, NGOs, foundations and 14 government agencies from Australia, Sweden, Russia, Oman, Netherland, Mexico, United States of America and France.

Nigeria and South Africa are currently the only member countries from Africa.
