The British High Commission (BHC) has renovate sports facilities in Government Secondary School Tudun Wada, Zone 4, Abuja.
This is part of the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Speaking at the event yesterday, the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Andrew Lloyd, said the occasion offered the staff of BHC the opportunity to perform community service and work with each other outside the office environment.
He said the choice of refurbishing sports facilities was tied to the London Olympics this year and added that his country valued the people to people relationship with Nigeria which he noted was the biggest part of the relationship between the two countries.
Also speaking, the Press and Public Affairs Officer of BHC Abuja, Hooman Nouruzi, said the high commission was passionate with its CSR and had devoted over 3,000 man-hour of its over 270 staff annually in the last four years to community service that improved the lives of people particularly the poor and deprived.
A staff of BHC, Judy Melifonwu, said it was a nice way to give back something to the society and the staff were happy doing it.
LEADERSHIP spoke with a student of the school who expressed appreciation to BHC for refurbishing the school’s sports facilities and weeding the vegetable garden. He said that such close contact with British citizens strengthens the bond between the two countries.
