Instil Culture Of Peace In Children, Maina Tells Parents

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Zainab Maina has said that Nigeria of tomorrow would be better if children grew up internalising a culture of peace.

Speaking at the special session of the National Children parliament? at National Centre? for Women? Development,? she said, “as a nation, parents and caregivers, we are duty bound to provide the peaceful, secure and conducive environment and opportunity for children to properly develop and to realise their full potential”.

According to her, ” it is in recognition of the importance the country attached to children, that Nigeria promised the international community to respect, protect and promote the rights of children through its commitment to uphold? the rights set out in the convention on the rights of the child”.

The minister further stated that, children are? integral part of? efforts to prevent conflict and build peace and that programmes should therefore be designed to enable their participation.

On his part, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku urged Nigerian adults to be like children who don’t keep malice and love without showing biase to religious affinity or tribe. In her remarks,? the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai?? tasked the children on the need to be vigilant and security conscious.
