Sarkin Fulani Proffers Solutions To Herdsmen /Farmers Clash

To avert the persistent crises between Fulani herdsmen and farmers, the Sarkin Fulani Nasarawa, Senator Walid Jibrin, has advised that states, local governments, districts and villages provide grazing reserves and cattle routes.

Senator Jubrin made this comment in a press statement distributed to journalists in Kaduna yesterday.

According to him, “Such grazing reserves must be equipped with nomadic schools, clinics and water ponds, and legislated by various state Houses of Assembly.”

He averred that there will be little or no land for Fulani herdsmen to graze their livestock in the next 40 to 50 years, if government does not intervene to save the situation.”

The senator also noted that while the population of herdsmen and farmers keep increasing, land has been dwindling, saying “lands are purchased by rich men and organisations that fence them and use them for commercial farming, thus reducing its use by herdsmen.”

Jibrin, who is also the chairman of Ardos, Nasarawa State, commended Vice President Namadi Sambo for his efforts towards ending the crises between Fulani herdsmen and farmers, which had resulted in the loss of many lives and property.
