… S’West PDP Urges Caution Over Salami’s Recall

The South West caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged those campaigning for the return of the suspended President of the Court of Appeal (PCA), Justice Ayo Salami, to guard against verbal attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan.

Salami was suspended by the National Judicial Council on August 18, 2011, for failing to tender an apology to the then Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, after they he was accused of impugning the reputation of the top echelon of the judiciary.

Specifically, Salami had reportedly accused Katsina-Alu of attempting to influence a Court of Appeal judgment on the Sokoto State governorship election petition.

The Federal Government on Tuesday said it would not reinstate Salami until the disposal of pending suits on his suspension after the NJC had recently recommended Salami’s reinstatement.

Reacting to comments by a broad section of the Nigerian society, the PDP in a statement signed its regional publicity secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade, said the ceaseless attacks on the President would further aggravate the situation as it was capable of fueling suspicion in some quarters that those making the demand had more than passing interest in the case.
