Unknown gunmen shot dead four people and injured one other while they were playing poker cards at Gidan Hamisu Gurgu relaxation spot in Gaida quarters of Kano municipality.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen came on a motorbike and took position before they opened fire on crowded spot mainly patronised by poker players.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the Saturday attack; however, the Kano Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Tanimu Rilwan Dutse, confirmed the shooting and said that the command had commenced investigations.

The incident occurred around 6.00pm on Saturday shortly after the visiting vice president, Namadi Sambo, after commiserating with the emir of Kano over the demise of late Sheikh Mudi Salga.

It was learnt that the gunmen were armed with assault rifles and were heard saying in fluent Hausa local dialect: ‘we would wipe out all of you’.
