Edo Guber: Police Worry Over Importation Of Arms

Edo State Police Command, yesterday, alleged that some unscrupulous politicians were importing arms and recruiting thugs to unleash terror in the state ahead of the July 14 governorship election.

The Commissioner, Balogun, Olayinka, who spoke in a chat with newsmen, said some politicians were planning to destroy bill-boards and posters of opposing political parties.

?He said, “The police also discovered plans by politicians to import arms and ammunition into the state.

“Some wealthy politicians are also sewing police uniforms, and the planned terror to be unleashed by the thugs will lead to destruction of government properties”.

The state police boss also disclosed that armed youths from neighbouring states were being recruited for the governorship election.

He however vowed that the police would rise to the occasion by ensuring that those fingered in the allegations were arrested and added that the police would ensure the success of the election.

Reacting to the alarm, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Publicity secretary, Pharmacist Mathew Uroghide, said that the party was not a violent entity and blamed the Action Congress of Nigerian (ACN) heating up the polity.

It however urged the police not to hesitate in exposing anybody behind the devilish plan to undermine the July 14 election.

When contacted, ACN state chairman, Hon Thomas Okosun said that his party did not believe in violence just as he said that the party was interested in ensuring that the principle of one man, one vote, was adhered to.
