Woman, 23, Electrocuted In Calabar

A 23-year-old? woman, Blessing Eyo Okon, was recently electrocuted when a Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, cable cut and fell at the corridor of her hair dressing saloon? as a result of a heavy rainstorm.

The incident occurred at 25 Mount Zion Road by Inyang Edem Street? in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. Her remains have been deposited at the Calabar General Hospital Mortuary, along Marry Slessor Avenue, Calabar.

A colleague of the deceased who gave her name as Grace and who also shares the shop with Blessing said Blessing was attending to a customer when the heavy rain began to fall and “suddenly the PHCN’s cable over their shop cut and fell on the floor of the shop and since the floor is covered with tiles and was wet, it began to shock those in the shop.”

?Grace said Blessing was the most affected because her legs were wet, adding that the entire vicinity was engulfed in flames. According to her the flame was so much, “as if somebody poured petrol inside fire and Blessing had burns on her stomach and legs but that of the stomach tore open her stomach and left her intestines gushing? out.”

One Ekene Anuzurike who sells foams at 140 Goldie who is also said to be a boy friend of Blessing said the lady had no premonition of any impending mishap as she left their home at 39 Asuquo Nyong that fateful day and that, “Her spirit was very high and had no ill feelings or fear of anything happening.”

The deceased according to him was from Creek Town in Odukpani Local Government Area of the State,stressing that they had been friends since 2010 when she finished secondary school and came to live with him.
