Ebonyi Police Detain Widow Over Son’s Death

A middle-aged woman, Mrs. Chinaza Nede, has been arrested by the police in Ebonyi State for allegedly killing her nine-year-old son.

Nede, a widow, is helping the police to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of her son, Olisaemeka, whose body was tied to a mango tree in their compound a few days ago.

The police suspected that the suicide story as told by Nede was stage managed to cover the killing of the young boy.

The woman was picked up when the police visited the scene and observed that it was strange for a nine-year-old boy to hang himself under the circumstance that Olisaemeka did.

The police suspected a foul play in the boy’s death when sources hinted them that the woman allegedly hit her son on the head with a heavy material, killing him in the process.

The Ebonyi State police public relations officer, Mr. Sylvester Igbo, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), confirmed the arrest and detention of the widow.

Nede is said to have told the police that her son returned from school rather too early, complaining that he was sent off for not wearing their new school uniform.

She said that his son disappeared from her only to be found hanging on a mango tree after an extensive search by anxious family members and neighbours.

The woman, according to the PPRO, first took the body to her pastor and from there to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki where he was confirmed dead.

The matter has been referred to the state CID for further investigation.
