Family, Police Differ Over PDP Chieftain’s Death

The family members of the slain stalwart of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Kabba, Kogi State, Prince Raphael Olorunpomi and the state police command have disagreed over the circumstances that led to his death.

The spokesman of the state police command, Mr. Ile Simon, has posited in a statement that the late Olorunpomi might have been killed for allegedly defiling the Oro festival in the ancient town or murdered because he recognised one of his abductors.

But the son of the fallen politician, Segun Olorunpomi, in a sharp reaction yesterday, described the Police statement as a ‘hasty lie’.

Segun, who was a victim of the attack on his father’s Happy Hour Parks and Garden in Kabba, where the late Olorunpomi was abducted and assassinated few days later, asserted that the entire incident had nothing to do with the Oro Festival.

“We are leaving all the leads open to the police in order for them to get to the roots of this dastardly murder. But we take exception to any hasty and un-investigated conclusions that will further inflict pains on the family,” Segun stated.

He added that: “It is sh ocking that the police, rather than conducting investigations, have resorted to naked lies, fabrications and diversionary tactics, by accusing a man who was gruesomely murdered of defiling the Oro festival.”
