Joint Patrol Team Arrests 4 Gunrunners

The Joint Patrol Team in Benue State popularly known as ‘Operation Zenda’ has arrested four persons, on the Makurdi-Lafia highway, who were allegedly conveying guns illegally.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY observed that the Makurdi-Lafia highway has been under undue terror and robbery cases, since the dismantling of road blocks by highway security agencies, in the past few months.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday and that the arrested gunrunners were in possession of a box load of AK 47 ammunitions, driving in a Peugeot salon car with registration number BE 222 KRV, heading towards Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital before they were caught by the men of the Joint Patrol Team.

According to Operation Zenda, the suspected gunruners were conveying the arms and ammunitions to Nasarawa state to unleash mayhem on innocent citizens, the development the security agents said must have been contributory to high rate of criminal activities on the busy highway in the recent time.

The Benue State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), in charge of public complaints, ASP Alaribe Ejike confirmed the arrest and reiterated the determination and commitment of the command to totally eradicate crime in and around the state, especially on the highways.?
