2 Persons Remanded In Prison For Setting Man Ablaze

Two men, Umar Garba and Abubakar Mohammed, were on Friday remanded in prison custody by an Ilorin Magistrates' Court for killing one Umar Sidi and setting his body and motorcycle ablaze.

The accused were said to have committed the offence with nine other accomplices now at large.

Prosecuting police officer Alhassan Jubril told the court that the accused killed Sidi following a rift between both families over the ownership of a missing sheep.

Jubril said that the deceased and his brother, one Usman Sidi, were returning from the farm when the accused persons and others emerged from the bush and attacked them.

He said that Sidi’s brother, who escaped, reported the matter to the Police Area Command at Bode Sadu, in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara.

The prosecutor told the court that investigation was still in progress, and prayed the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody, adding that the offence was not ordinarily bailable.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ibijoke Olawoyin, granted the plea, and remanded the accused in prison custody, while she adjourned the case to July 26, for further mention. (NAN)
