The police in Lagos on Monday arraigned an undergraduate, Samuel Nwodo, who allegedly stole 12 photocopying machines and gave the seller a fake bank credit alert.
The machines were said to be worth N3.4 million.
Nwodo (24), who resides at No. 22 Rasiq Agbamosi St., Surulere, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.
He is standing trial before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court.
According to the prosecutor, Insp Akeem Raji, the defendant committed the crimes on June 23 at the Ekeson Motor Park by the Alafia Bus Stop, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos.
Raji said that the machines belonged to one Mr Olanrewaju Johnson.
He said that Johnson supplied the machines to the defendant, and that he failed to pay for the goods but sent a fake credit alert to the victim.
He said that Johnson discovered from the bank that the defendant did not pay any money into his account.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 312(a),? 278 (a) and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Nwodo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, and was granted bail by Magistrate A.O. Gbajumo in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court adjourned the case till Sept. 18 for mention.
