Muslims To Pray For Peace As Ramadan Fast Begins – Shettima

Gov. Kashim Shettima on Friday appealed to Muslims in Borno to intensify prayers for peace in the country as they begin the 30-day Ramadan fast.

Shettima said this in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Communication, Alhaji Isa Gusau, in Maiduguri. ?????????????????????????

“To all Muslims, the month of Ramadan is a period of gaining spiritual height; it is a holy month of worship, sacrifice and supplications to the Almighty Allah.

“Ramadan is, therefore, a timely period for Muslims to commit more time to intense prayers in our desperate search for the restoration of peace in Borno and Nigeria as a whole,'' he said.

Shettima also advised wealthy Muslims to take advantage of the period by touching the lives of the less-privileged in the society.

“Let us use the Ramadan period to touch the lives of each other, especially our neighbours in need.

“Let us strive to help others in line with the teachings of the Ramadan,'' he said.

Shettima explained that the Ramadan fast was targeted at making wealthy Muslims appreciate the fate of the down trodden, by experiencing hunger.?

“The idea of abstaining from food as an essential factor of the Ramadan is for every adult and healthy Muslim, the rich and the poor to starve themselves for the sake of Allah, so that the rich can appreciate the problems facing the less privileged in the society.

“I urge everyone to go about his or her normal business in an orderly manner, and work hard to strengthen our faith as good Muslims and good citizens of the country,'' he said.
