NUPENG Suspends Strike, As FG Pledges To Pay 2012 Subsidy

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) workers yesterday suspended its strike action over the payment of 2012 Petroleum Subsidy Arrears.

The union is also worried over the state of the refineries, labour issues concerning SPDC and bad roads in the country.

Comrade Igwe Achese, while speaking with newsmen in Lagos, warned that unless the Federal Government also restructure loans of JEPTFON members, the workers would ensure total compliance to the industrial action.?

However, in a meeting at the instance of the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu, after deliberations with all stakeholders, the union agreed to shelve the strike, while calling on the government to implement the demand of the workers. One of the agreements with the workers is that the payment of 2012 Petroleum Subsidy be commenced.

“The issuance of Sovereign Debt Notes (SDN) for verified and processed batches will be concluded within two? weeks,” he said.
