Niger Govt. Orders Two Contractors To Return To Site

?

The Niger Government has ordered two contractors handling its projects to return to site and complete their jobs on schedule.

The contractors are Messrs Rural Steel Bridging and Infiouest International.

The projects are the construction of a bridge across river Kaduna at Shiroro and the new government house located at three arms zone, Minna.

Mallam Iliyasu Dhacko, the Director-General, Monitoring and Evaluation, gave the directive in Minna on Friday, when he paid an unscheduled visit to the site of the two projects.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace the construction firms were handling the projects in spite of being fully mobilised recently by the government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the contract to construct the bridge was awarded in 2011 with duration of 24 months, while that of the new government house was awarded in 2007 to be completed in 2010.

Mallam Umaru Aliyu, the village head of Galadimakogo in Shiroro local government area, commended the government for awarding the contract for the bridge.

He said the completion of the project would boost economic activities and improve the living condition of the people.

Aliyu also commended the government for completing the electrification of Galadimakogo-Erena and its environs and for providing the area with a cottage hospital.

He implored the people to be law-abiding, live peacefully among themselves and support the government in its efforts to develop their communities. (NAN) ?
