ACN To Okupe, Presidency: Stop Playing The Ostrich Over Graft Allegations

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Presidency to respond to allegations against Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, suggesting that his company obtained multi-millions of naira contracts without executing them.

In a statement issued in Lagos on yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, ACN noted that rather than respond to the allegation of corruption against Okupe, the PDP and those concerned chose to play the ostrich.

Reacting to similar call that ACN prevails on Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly to resign his office as he is currently standing trial for fraud related offenses, ACN described it as a deliberate attempt to obfuscate issues and a case of comparing apples with oranges.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Lagos State Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has been charged before a court of law. He has pleaded not guilty. The law presumes him innocent until proved guilty. The case is ongoing; therefore, any call for his resignation is an attempt to stampede justice,” it said.

While maintaining that the case of Okupe was different, as he had been confronted with allegations that he had swindled both Imo and Benue state governments of hundreds of millions of naira, the party insisted that he could not continue to be the president’s spokesman until he had cleared himself these allegations.

He stated that the allegation suggesting that his party, ACN harbours cheat and liar, Mohammed, who urged the PDP to prove its allegations beyond reasonable doubt, urged the ruling party to do introspection, saying PDP was home for corrupt politicians.

According to the Action Congress of Nigeria, the People’s Democratic Party has in the past thirteen years infected Nigeria with corruption, placing Nigeria as one of the most corrupt nations in the world.
