Traditional Ruler Seeks Funding For Fishing Festival

The Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi 1, has appealed Lagos State Government to ensure adequately funding of the annual fishing festival at Gbaji-Yeke Waterways in Badagry, Lagos.

The Akran, who made the appeal at the annual fishing festival on Monday in Badagry, said the government should provide the necessary equipment to raise the festival to international standard.

“This will help in promoting fishing business and the festival.''

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that AwhesuJohn emerged winner of 2012 edition of Badagry Fishing Festival competition held at Gbaji-Yeke Waterways.

Awhesu came first after catching the biggest fish of the event witnessed by a large crowd that included the traditional ruler.

Speaking on his victory, Awhesu attributed his success to constant practice and training.

“I give glory to God for that.’’

The winner is entitled to an electronic gadget provided by MTNNigeria, the sponsor of the event.

TundeWhesu and Albert Awoju, who came second and third respectively, are also entitled to electronic gadgets.

The duo of Sagbo Daniel and Sagbo Satingo won the Boat Regatta Racing, while Monday Daniel, Zavie Zanu and Sokenu Sunday came first, second and third respectively in the swimming competition.

The festival features week-long activities which include masquerade performance, art exhibition, drama presentation and observation of International Day for the Remembrance of Slave Trade and its abolition. ?(NAN)
