2 Children, 14 Others Die in Abeokuta, Bauchi Auto Crashes

No fewer than 14 persons, including two children, lost their lives in two separate auto crashes in Bauchi and Ogun states yesterday.

In Obada Oko area, few kilometers to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, 11 persons, including two children were sent to their early graves in an accident involving a commercial bus with registration no LAGOS CZ 269 MUS and a truck? after they had a head-on collision.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP, the Itori Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Mr. Fatai Bakare, disclosed that the unfortunate incident happened at about 12am, confirming that 11 people were involved.

?Bakare said that the articulated vehicle marked LAGOS 208 XB going to Lagos was on the lane of vehicles coming to Abeokuta before the bus ran into it at Obada-Oko Adigbe Junction.

“All the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta and Ifo General Hospital. The only survivor is critically injured and receiving treatment at FMC. Again we have to say it that it is very important for motorists to keep to their lane while on the highway to forestall future occurrence of this type of situation, “he advised.

Also in Bauchi, a fatal accident that occurred yesterday at Turum village along Bauchi/Maiduguri road in Bauchi State claimed about five lives, and injured seven others.

The tragedy, according to eyewitnesses, happened when a 14-seater Mitsubishi bus with registration number XA657GW, and trailer tanker with registration number XG810JJA collided, killing and maiming the victims instantly.

Confirming the event, the Bauchi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Olatunji Sunday, said that “among the 14 passengers that were involved in the accident, five persons were confirmed dead, including two men, two women and a child. The 7 other persons that were injured include two females and 5 males while 2 other persons have survived with no injuries.’’
