Borno Gov. Accents To Varsity Bill

Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno?on Monday signed into law the state university bill, giving a legal backing
to the establishment of the institution.

?The state House of Assembly had?some months ago passed the bill with an overwelming majority.

Shettima said at the ceremony that the effort was borne out of his administration's desire to establish an institution that would stand the test of time.

“Government's action is guided by the desire of the state to provide opportunities to our teeming school graduates
to access qualitative higher education. ?

“Our actions were based on desire to establish an institution that will stand the test of time for generation of
students yet unborn.''?

Shettima?said?the objective?of the project?was to set up a world class institution that would serve the educational needs of candidates from the state and beyond.??? ?

The governor?had?set up an executive committee headed by the deputy governor, Alhaji Zanna Mustapha, to work out modalities for the immediate take off of the university.

The chairman of the technical committee for the establishment of the university, Prof. Nur Alkali, said the institution would take off with four faculties that included?Arts and Humanities, Social and Management sciences, Education and Sciences.? (NAN)
