Legal Aid Council Holds Stakeholders Workshop

The Legal Aid Council (LAC) has organised a one-day Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) workshop for relevant stakeholders in Kaduna State.

Participants at the workshop include Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), traditional rulers, welfare officers from 10 local government areas of Kaduna State, students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, National Youth Services Corps(NYSC) members and staff of the LAC.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the opening ceremony of the workshop, the Director General (DG) of the LAC, Mrs Joy Bob-Manuel, said the workshop was to avail relevant stakeholders modern trends of mediating disputes.

According to the DG, “it is the modern trend that people should device another method to resolve issues, instead of going to court which is costly and takes? longer time such disputes can be settled amicably without necessarily going to court. It is less cumbersome and obviously not costly but time effective and has proved to be very successful.

“We have had several workshops on how to manage people and their knowledge of their fundamental rights as provided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

She said the workshop was to teach relevant stakeholders? how to embark on mediation between aggrieved parties and expose them to modern methods of settling disputes amicably.
