Oil Thieves Threaten Pipeline Surveillance Workers

Workers of Oil Facility Surveillance Limited (OFSL), Warri, Delta State have raised the alarm over alleged threat to their lives and properties just as about 205 illegal oil refining camps have been destroyed and burnt by the outfit.

At a press conference yesterday in Warri, the General Manager, Oil Facility Surveillance Limited, Mr. Kestin Pondi, said between August? and September 2012, the surveillance group witnessed tremendous and successful strides in frustrating? bunkering and operatives of local refineries in the creeks and other strategic locations.

But he cried out over alleged threat to the lives of workers of the Oil Facility Surveillance Limited, saying that their lives were being threatened on a daily basis by suspected criminals and their sponsors.

In his words, “The lives of workers of OFSL are being threatened on a daily basis by these criminals and sponsors who see their activities as legal and have resolved to fight to their last breathe. These people are trying to frustrate our operations and the NNPC should not allow them to have their way, hence we are also appealing to the federal government and the NNPC for the renewal of our contract expected to expire in the next two months”.

According to him, “The organisation has witnessed tremendous and successful strides in frustrating activities of local oil bunkering and operatives of local refineries in the creeks and other strategic locations. Some of the impact recorded recently includes, but not limited to the following; the destruction of one hundred and fifty (150) illegal refineries in Isaba creek with the camps also burnt down; the destruction of one hundred and fifty(15o) illegal refineries in Isapama creek with the camps also destroyed and burnt down”.
