Police Arrest Gun Running Cartel

Nemesis has finally caught up with three suspected robbers , who specialise in inter- state gun running? as they were paraded? by the Lagos State police command yesterday.

Speaking with journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja, Manko Abubakar Umar, Lagos State police commissioner said that on September 23, officer in-charge of Lagos State Anti-Robbery Squad SARS, Abba Kyari? received information that one Uche Okeagbu was arrested by the police around IIlemba Hausa area in Ajangbadi in Lagos.

He said, “The suspect was arrested on the suspicion that he belongs to a deadly gang of armed robbers, who specialise in bank robberies and gun running. During interrogations, the suspect confessed to police detectives that he and members of his gang have made fortunes from looting banks across various states in the country.

“According to the suspect, he got a whopping N2.1million as his share of the loot, when members of his gang stormed the Shere town of Kwara State branch of one of the old generation banks operating in the country. He got the money, when his gang also looted banks in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and Ibadan, Oyo State.”

CP Manko further said that other members of the gang which include Emmanuel Ezeani,? 23 and Nonso Nwauagwu, 22, teamed up with Uche Okeagbu, the prime suspect as well as others? to terrorise Lagosians.

He added that the suspects also used two buses as their armoury and another infinity salon car installed with a sensor, believed to be used in monitoring the movement of police officers and other security agencies around the vicinity of banks and around them.

Items recovered from the suspects include 9 AK-47 riffles, 2 General Purpose Machine GPM guns, 1 Rocket Propel Grenade RPG launcher, 225 fully loaded AK-47 magazine, 1000 rounds of ammunitions, 260 rounds of live ammunitions and five dynamites with a detonator.

Speaking with our correspondent, Chinonso Nwauangwu, who blamed the devil for his involvement in inter-state robberies and gun running also confessed that he alongside members of his gang have participated in looting banks in Edo, Ondo, Kogi, Anambra, Lagos and Ogun States, where they have carted away huge sums of money running into N10million. According to him, he got more than N1.5million as his own share of the loots.
