Anyim Reaffirms FG’s Commitment To Decent Accommodation For Citizens

Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), on Tuesday in Abuja re-affirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to providing decent accommodation for citizens.

Anyim said this while inaugurating the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) transit officers and men quarters at Mogadishu Barracks, Asokoro.

He said because comfortable accommodation for all citizens was a matter of concern to the government, President Goodluck Jonathan recently approved the establishment of a National Housing Committee.

“I wish to assure you that the president deeply appreciates the loyalty and sacrifice of the armed forces. As the president takes immense pride in the splendid works of all our serving personnel as you serve our nation with courage and distinction home and abroad.

“ He regards the welfare, training, safety, discipline, operational readiness of our service men as a matter of utmost national priority. He accords the same regards to federal and retired personnel as well,'' he said.

The SGF noted that the president was working steadfastly to equip the nation with well motivated, professional and devoted armed forces which the country desire and deserve.

Anyim said that the speedy completion of the project, in spite of the unrelenting rain, confirmed the alertness, speed, precision and discipline with which the armed forces was known for.

“I commend the Chief of Defence staff and his team for this wonderful feat. Let me assure you that I share your immense pride in this wonderful accomplishment.

“I am particularly pleased that the CDS has achieved this exemplary result in addressing the accommodation problem of service personnel’s in the DHQ as the importance of decent accommodation to serving personnel’s cannot be over emphasised.

Anyim urged the occupants of the accommodation to prudently manage the facilities, stressing that each occupant must bear in mind, the proper maintenance of his unit as well as the entire environment.

According to him, the maintenance of the accommodation will be a reflection of the character of the officers and men of the armed forces.

Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin, said that due to the urgent need of accommodation for officers and men, the DHQ decided to inaugurate the second phase of the project.

Petinrin said this was to ensure that those with urgent accommodation move in while work continues on some other aspect of the project.

“The project we are inaugurating today comprises two blocks, consisting of forty one-bedroom flat for officers and four blocks consisting of one hundred and twenty one-bedroom flats for the soldiers, totalling 160 one-bedroom flat, all furnished.

“Work is going on on the additional four blocks consisting of 160 one-bedroom flats for the officers, which has been fully paid for,‘’ he said

He said the facility also had four boreholes with a 30,000 litre capacity tank to supplement FCT water supply

The CDS said work was going on on the construction of roads, erosion control, including the installation of solar panel security light.

“This project was made possible by the funds made available by President Goodluck Jonathan and the support of officers and men of the DHQ,‘’ he added.

Petinrin hoped that the provision of the accommodation would enhance the performance of the officers and men of the DHQ.
