As the crunch game between the flying Eagles and South Africa’s Amajita, draws nearer, Kenneth Omeruo of Dutch Eredivisie club, ADO Den Haag is expected to lead a slew of foreign-based professionals to camp for the 2013 Africa Youth Championship (AYC), qualifier.
Also expected in camp for Sunday’s return leg AYC clash is, Aliyu Mohammed, who is based in Ukraine. Mohammed is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Wednesday, while Omeruo’s arrival date has been set for Friday.
Omeruo, 19, can play at centre-half or right back and was on duty for Den Haag in Sunday’s 3-3 draw against Heracles Almelo.
The powerfully-built defender was part of the Nigerian team that reached the quarterfinals at the 2011 Fifa Under20 World Cup in Colombia.
Mohammed, a pacy left-back, featured for the Flying Eagles in the two legs against Tanzania in the previous round of the AYC qualifiers.? Meanwhile, head coach of the Flying Eagles, John Obuh has reassured Nigerians of a great result in this weekend’s show.
“We know them (Amajita) very well. We have played against them twice and have lost once and drawn once that tells you they are a very good team.
“However, we know the task at hand and we will be approaching this weekend’s game with every bit of seriousness. Nigerians want to see their team at the AYC and by the grace of God, we will achieve our set objectives,” he said.? The first leg qualifier played at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, South Africa between both nations finished in a 1-1 draw.
The overall winners of this match-up will qualify for the AYC proper in Algeria in March, 2013.
