Kano To Spend N73bn On Road Projects

The Kano State Government is to spend N72.5 billion on the construction of roads this year.

The state's Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Alhaji Mohammed Yahaya, made the announcement on Sunday while speaking with newsmen, shortly after inspecting some road projects in the Kano metropolis.

He said that about N50 billion would be expended on the construction of five-kilometre dual carriage way in the headquarters of each of the 44 Local Government Areas in the state.

Yahaya said that over N13.7 billion would also be spent on rehabilitation and dualisation of some roads in Kano City.

He said the road projects include those initiated by the present administration and six others inherited from the administration of former Gov. Ibrahim Shekarau.

Yahaya said that the State Government intended to repair 50 additional roads in the Kano metropolis to boost socio-economic activities in the state.

“All the construction companies working in the state will repair the roads as part of their corporate social responsibility.

“Each contractor was allowed to choose the road he will repair and so far we have selected 50 roads which will benefit from this gesture,’’ he said.?

Yahaya said that the state found it necessary to embark on the rehabilitation and dualisation of the roads to improve the status of the state and to check the traffic congestion being experienced in the state's capital.

He called on people affected by the construction to give the contractors maximum support and cooperation to enable them complete the jobs on schedule.

The commissioner had during the inspection, visited Kabuga-Gwarzo road, Sheik Jafar road, Sharada road, Darmanawa/Yantsaki road and the Zaria road expansion project. ?
