President Goodluck Jonathan said on Tuesday that his administration would put structures in place that would enable all Nigerians to have access to financial services and funds.
Jonathan spoke when he received the UN Special Envoy for Financial Inclusion, Princess Maxima of Netherlands, at the Presidential Villa.
He said that he recognised the importance of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) as the major vehicle for creating employment in an increasingly industrialising world.
Jonathan said the financial inclusion strategy midwifed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would enable more Nigerians to have access to funds and help reduce poverty, especially in the rural areas.
He commended the CBN for the new strategy to provide access to funds and empower the youth, women and the creative industry.
The president said his administration would support the strategy and pool the relevant departments of government together to implement it for the benefit of Nigerians.
Earlier, Maxima had commended Jonathan for supporting the financial inclusion strategy.
She also commended the work of the Economic Management Team and the effective coordination of relevant ministries and departments.
Maxima noted that a good communications network was necessary for adequate support to reach the rural agriculture groups.
