The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter yesterday congratulated former Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon (GCFR) as he attains the age of 78.
The FCT chapter of the forum said Gen Gowon is to be celebrated by Nigerians as a brave officer and head of state who stood to ensure Nigeria remains one united entity, and he succeeded despite the challenges that the country had to pass through under his administration.
The Chairman of the FCT chapter of MBF, Hon Emmanuel Okeme, told LEADERSHIP that as an organisation, they express joy as Gen Gowon who is an illustrious son and leader of the forum, is moving strong as he clocks 78 years.
He said, “we rejoice and celebrate with this living legend and elder statesman, Gen Yakubu Gowon (GCFR) who is celebrating his 78th birthday on planet earth. He is an illustrious son of Nigeria and the Northern Nigeria. We are most grateful to God Almighty who has preserved him to mark another year to his age.
We cannot forget his stern leadership qualities he exhibited during the turbulence that confronted the country’s unity, and was able to restore the country’s unity, because he is a strong believer in one Nigeria.
We want him to continue to play his fatherly role as a spiritual leader and philanthropist, in advising the younger ones on national issues.”
