Ondo Guber Poll: PDP Meet To Reconcile S’ West Members

After its defeat at the October 20, 2012, governorship polls in Ondo State, the South West caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will meet today in Ibadan to chart a new course for reconciliation.

The meeting tagged: ‘Zonal Caucus Meeting’, to be chaired by the party’s National Vice-Chairman (South-West), Chief Segun Oni, is expected to have in attendance, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Others invited to the meeting include serving and past members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), Board of Trustees (BOT), as well as National Executive Council (NEC) from the zone.

A statement from the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Hon Kayode Babade, stated that the current National Assembly members, all serving and former ministers and special advisers to the President, past Speakers of the Federal House of Representatives, and other principal officers of the National Assembly from the zone are invited.

Also invited to the meeting are former governors (both military and civilian) and their deputies, as well as former National Vice-Chairmen, former senators and scores of others.

Sources close to the party told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND, that the meeting might not be unconnected with the outcome of last governorship election, which the party lost owing to schism within the state chapter of the party.

Though, the source said the meeting was not convened for disciplinary purposes, it is expected that reconciliation will top agenda during the meeting.

“The meeting will focus on reconciliation which the party needs now; a situation whereby some members will be working against the interest of the party during elections will be looked into,”? the source who pleaded anonymity stated.

When contacted, Babade who refused to be dragged into discussing the agenda of the meetings said it was a routine move to bring members together.

“The meeting is aimed at bringing members together to discuss the future of the party,” he said just as he maintained that Obasanjo would be present.
