Directorate of Road Traffic Services otherwise known as VIO inits renewed efforts to restore sanity on roads in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), havearrested and prosecuted110motorists inits mobile courts for traffic offences between September and October2012.
The Director of VIO, Col. Wilson Rotimi Alade,(rtd) disclosed this yesterday in Abuja when he addressed the media on the activities of the directorate since his assumption of office on February 28, 2012.
“By our record, more than 110 cases have been concluded between September and October this year with 92 persons convicted, eight discharged and acquainted and 10 ordered to fix their vehicles before they were released,” he said.
He said the mobile courts were established early this year by the directorate with the help of Transport Secretariat of the FCT because it was discovered that the process of making motoristsdisobey the law is not passing adequate message to offenders.
“We felt that it is better to make sure that some issues are handled on the spot. We set up mobile courts on a weekly basis and we ensure that they operate without advance notice so that offenders will not escape them,”Alade said.
He appealed to the security agencies who are recalcitrant on traffic laws? to key into the directorate’s road traffic rules saying that such rules was not intended to witch-hunt them but rather to introduce sanity in the FCT.
