The Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Nseobong Akpabio, on Saturday advised HIV positive officers to take care of themselves..
Commenting on the World's HIV and AIDS day, Akpabio told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the disease was no longer a death sentence.
He advised officers not to engage in risky behaviours capable of exposing them to the disease and urged those that were positive to be faithful to their drugs.
“HIV and AIDS has no cure so our people should protect themselves and those that already have the disease should constantly take their drugs to live longer,” he said.
He said that the FRSC had an Awareness Campaign unit that catered for the welfare of officers and their families.
Also speaking, the Unit Commander of Lagos Mainland, Yaba, Mr Arinze Igwe, told NAN that HIV was better than road crashes because “it does not kill its victims instantly.’’
Igwe said that those that took their drugs regularly lived longer, adding: “road traffic crashes most times either kill its victims or leave them with severe injuries.’’?
