The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu and aviation stakeholders have resolved issues that caused industrial disharmony in the aviation sector.
At a meeting in Abuja, the trade unions in the aviation sector agreed to stay action on a proposed one-day warning strike.
A statement by the representatives of the labour and aviation ministries and agencies in the sector, said stakeholders agreed that some issues should be resolved, especially communication challenges.
They also agreed that due process should be followed in all appointments in the sector and noted that the issue of backlog of staff promotion was being addressed by the aviation minister.
According to the statement, all parties at the meeting also agreed on the need for the automation of revenue collection.
Also, the posting of the President of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Mr Benjamin Okewu, out of Lagos, was resolved as the minister directed the reversal.
Parties further resolved to adopt dialogue in the resolution of industrial disputes.
“There will be a bimonthly ministerial forum between the aviation minister, management staff and the trade unions in the sector.
“All other views and concerns by the trade unions should be forwarded to the minister of aviation and copied to the minister of labour and productivity.
“A meeting should be reconvened in two months to appraise the progress made on all issues raised.
“Furthermore, all parties agreed to set aside all misgivings and work together in a very harmonious atmosphere,’’ the statement said. (NAN)
